Tantya

This idea started while I was renovating the house I was renting, with the landlord's approval. I watched the contractor prepare quotations almost entirely by estimation. Instead of calculating based on actual quantities, they would often look at the job and say things like, *"This should be enough."* There wasn't much data or calculation behind the estimate.

Human memory isn't perfect, and whether it's a small renovation or a large construction project, I realized how important accurate and consistent estimating is.

There are already some estimating tools available, but none of them offered the level of functionality I was looking for, so I decided to build one myself.

It's called "Tantya"(Temporary), a free (for now) estimating tool for small construction and renovation projects.

The tool takes care of the calculations for you. Simply enter the project dimensions and choose the type of work—such as CHB walls, tiling, painting, and more. It will automatically calculate the estimated material quantities, including waste allowance and contingency.

Material prices are provided as editable reference values. Before generating the final quotation, users can replace them with prices from their own suppliers. Once everything is ready, the estimate can be converted into a professional PDF quotation or shared through a link that clients can open and approve directly from their phones.

From a technical perspective, the application is built with Next.js and PostgreSQL as an offline-first PWA, because reliable internet access isn't always available on construction sites. PDF quotations are available in both English and Tagalog, while the application itself supports English, Tagalog, Korean, and Chinese.

As for the pricing data, I researched publicly available prices from online construction suppliers in the Philippines and used them as reference values, keeping track of their sources. However, the final quotation is intentionally designed to be editable because material prices often vary by supplier, location, and local offline stores. 

The built-in prices serve only as a starting point, allowing contractors and estimators to customize the quotation using their own actual supplier costs.
