Framing Plan — Coordinated, Review-Ready Layouts
Framing Plan is a focused, browser-based workspace tailored for early-stage structural floor and roof framing design. Built to bridge the critical gap between conceptual design and professional engineering review, it allows structural designers, architects, and building contractors to rapidly sketch and iterate joist layouts, beams, and openings without the friction of heavy CAD software. By digitizing what is traditionally sketched on paper or whiteboards, the tool serves as a dedicated digital thinking space that speeds up early-stage drafting workflows while enforcing practical structural parameters.
The Design Sequence
The application functions via a fluid, three-step design pipeline on a lightweight browser canvas:
Shape the Footprint: Design teams can begin from a basic rectangle, preset layout, or pre-made template, adjusting wall lengths and dragging vertices directly on the canvas.
Resolve the Framing: The engine automatically populates the footprint with joists, grid lines, load-bearing walls, openings, and beams, offering real-time member readouts and structural span feedback.
Annotate & Export: Users can layer the layout with architectural symbols, precise dimensions, and alignment-guided markup before exporting clean, standardized preliminary sheets for engineering inspection.
Key Capabilities
Parametric Layout Engine: A metric-first, code-table-driven engine that instantly re-resolves the entire structural layout when changes are made. If a user modifies the span direction, spacing, grid paths, openings, or entire footprint dimensions, the system adapts instantly without requiring a manual redraw or project restart.
Engineering Visibility Tools: Provides immediate structural feedback directly in the workspace. Designers can monitor load-bearing walls, track member schedules, and view live joist and beam span warnings as they sketch to verify layouts fall within standard code-table thresholds.
Intuitive Canvas Controls: Built with precision-focused drafting tools including multi-select functionality, snap-to-wall mechanics, alignment guides, and direct edge-and-wall editing variables.
Project Continuity: Supports workflow flexibility by allowing users to save their progress locally or straight to a configured project backend, ensuring files can be reopened and iterated upon seamlessly.
Format Outputs
Framing Plan produces clean, layered outputs designed to fit into standard industry tech stacks:
PNG: A flat plan-view image ideal for design conversations, notes, and direct team messaging.
PDF: Presentation-ready preliminary drawing sheets appended with essential project and date metadata.
DXF (CAD): Layered files containing cleanly separated vector lines for walls, joists, beams, grids, and openings, allowing flawless handoffs directly into AutoCAD, Revit, and other major CAD platforms.
