BarangayOS

So I spent the last few weeks doing something slightly unhinged: building a whole system for barangays instead of enjoying my last bit of summer before college.

Here's the thing that got me started. Most barangay runs a lot of its work on paper and memory. Someone needs a clearance, and someone else has to go dig through a logbook. A blotter case gets filed, and it lives in a folder that could get lost, soaked in a flood, or eaten by termites (this genuinely happens). Budget reports get pieced together by hand before every meeting.

Nobody's fault. Just how things have always been.

So, with way too much free time and a mild caffeine addiction, I built BarangayOS.

It keeps track of residents, documents, blotter cases, assets, and barangay finances in one place.

It still works even when the internet decides to take a break, which, let's be honest, happens a lot in a lot of barangays. Records also get backed up, so they don't just vanish because a laptop finally gave up on life.

In human terms: shorter waits for simple clearances. Officials who can actually see their budget instead of assembling it like a puzzle. Records that survive a hard drive dying. Less time on repetitive paperwork, more time actually helping people.

I'm giving this away for free. Fully open source.

Any barangay can use it. Any developer can improve it.

I'm not trying to sell anything, I just think digital governance shouldn't only exist in big cities with big budgets. It should be something small towns can have too. Might as well start here, in Bayawan.

I'm still just a student, technically not even in college yet. I don't have this all figured out, and I learned a good chunk of this while building it. But I wanted to actually contribute something real to my hometown.

Small step. Hopefully it becomes something bigger than just me overthinking things at 2am.

Quick disclaimer: this is an open-source tool, not an official government platform, and it doesn't come with any warranty or guarantee. If your barangay wants to actually use it, please read the Privacy Notice, Terms of Use, and Data Processing Agreement in the repo first. Your barangay stays fully responsible for your own residents' data (you own it, you control it, I just built the tool), and it's a good idea to run it by your Sangguniang Barangay and maybe legal counsel before rolling it out officially.
